Mr. Burlak has been a constant in our lives for 11 years, from the time my 6-year old older daughter announced that she wanted to play the violin. At that age she was still receiving occupational therapy for fine motor skill coordination. Mr. Burlak was extremely patient with her, and made sure the priority was on loving music. He keeps both of my willful daughters on task during their lessons, in a way that doesn’t involve criticisms for being unprepared. At this point we have a 17-year old and 15-year old who sometimes rearrange lessons times on their own with Mr. Burlak, shriek with laughter when the doorbell rings, and talk to him about their music theory classes, marching band adventures, and plans for college. Other lessons end in the summer. Not Mr. Burlak’s. His background teaching in a school system and his musical gifts allow him to teach a range of instruments, and both daughters have been successful thanks to his tutelage.
What all of the other parents have said about the convenience of home-based lessons was certainly the impetus for us as well. One daughter does homework or eats dinner while the other has their lesson. Beyond that, the music lessons at home also bring with them some of the holistic aspects that I imagine home schooling probably entails. I didn’t appreciate that part of it until my younger daughter tugged at me at age 5 to ask when she could start taking lessons from Mr. Burlak too. The girls learn something beyond their single instruments from being around the other instruments and lessons. I can’t imagine what my older daughter will do next year when she leaves for college. I much prefer music lessons at home not only for the convenience of not having to taxi my daughter around, but also because I don't have to worry about leaving her alone somewhere. Of course there is also the comfort of being in her own home, which has the added benefit of the privacy you simply cannot get when you go to a music school, where you can hear everyone playing through the walls.

I have four kids, and between soccer, field hockey, dance, and work around the house, I simply do not have two hours in my week to sit at a music school and wait for them to take lessons. Honestly, I would not have music lessons if weren't in my home: you don't have to worry about being late, and if our instructor is late I'm making dinner anyway!

I am more than happy to provide a recommendation to Val Burlak for his music instruction, as we've been extremely happy with him both as an instructor, friend and teacher. I have been so very pleased with everything related to the professionalism, level of skill, attention to detail and quality of music education provided to our two children by Val. We have had Val come into our home for the past six years to provide violin & piano lessons to my now 14 yr old daughter and 17 yr old son, and we truly couldn't be happier with the quality of lessons, they're progression and most importantly their appreciation & passion for music, which they certainly learned from Val. He's not only a great teacher of music, but he's extremely talented himself! He not only talks the talk of playing great, but he walks the walk...and plays (& demonstrates) beautifully!!
Val provides piano & violin lessons to both of my children, who had never played an instrument previously....he helped them to feel comfortable reading music & playing the instrument at their own pace. They never felt intimidated or overwhelmed and continue to enjoy learning and playing. Val continues to challenge them to be the best they can be and ensure that it's fun & rewarding for them. He has such a great rapport with both of my children & they look forward to their lessons every week. They have both progressed so much and we really enjoy hearing their music in the house. I am extremely comfortable in recommending Val as a music instructor to any child/adult of any age with any level of skill.
